Battle of the Lip Sabers – Organic Lipsticks versus my Fav Bobby Brown Matte Lipstick

I ordered two lipsticks and one lip liner from Naturisimo and have decided to do a review on their texture, smell, taste, ingredients and wearability versus my current favourite (Bobby Brown Matte Lipstick in Pale Peach).

Here are the swatches:

Beauty without Cruelty in raspberry lipstick, Lavera in rosewood lipstick, Bobby Brown in Pale Peach lipstick, Vapour Beauty Multi use in Starlet and Courtesan and Terra D'Oc lip liner

Here’s what they look like on the lips (sorry about the splotchiness…was not intending to be neat about it):

Just in case you’ve never used Bobby Brown matte lipsticks before (the new range), the lipstick is really long lasting.  It lasts me half a day if I don’t eat and drink through a straw.  A few blots on the lip and it’s enough to provide adequate coverage.  The texture is also creamy and it is non shimmery.

Beauty Without Cruelty In Raspberry:

Texture: Not as smooth as Lavera and Vapour Beauty.  It’s comparable to Bobby Brown.

Colour: Vibrant.  A few swipes will bring out the colour.  If you swipe some more, it does provide adequate coverage but not as great as that from Bobby Brown.  I chose Raspberry because it was very natural looking.  Generally it looked alright on pale Asian skin.  It is not shimmery.

Smell: No smell whatsoever.

Wearability: Not tested for the full day but stays on for a few hours depending on what you do.

Ingredients: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed oil, Candelilla Wax, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Oleic/Linolenic Polyglcerides, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Titanium Dioxide, D&C Yellow 5 Al Lake, D&C Red 7 CA, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba Wax), D&C Red 6 BA, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Tocopheryl, Acetate (Vitamin E), Black Iron Oxide.

Made in: United Kingdom (as printed on the little sticker on the case)lipsticks2

Lavera in Rosewood:

Texture: Super smooth.

Colour: Duller than expected.  Takes a while to build the colour on the lips (lots of swiping and swiping).  After building and building, the colour is really natural and is only slightly more pink than my natural lip colour (as you can see in the pic for the Terra D’Oc lip liner.

Smell: Has a smell that reminds me of my mother’s lipsticks back in the 1980s.  Not a bad smell though.

Wearability:  Does not last.  A quick swipe of baby wipe gets everything off!

Ingredients: Not printed on the case as with BWC.  But you can get the ingredient list from their website here.

Made in: Germany (as printed on the little sticker stuck on the lipstick)

Vapour Beauty Multi-Use in Starlet:

Texture: Super smooth and silky.

Colour:  Really hard to get colour from even many swipes.  Takes a long while to build the colour on the lips (even more swiping and swiping).  After building and building, I still don’t really see much difference between my natural lip colour and with the Starlet.  I think this might be better for the cheeks but even then its too shimmery for the cheeks if you prefer something more matte.  I think you will need a lot of product to build the colour up.

Smell: Has a strong lipstick smell.

Wearability:  Does not last at all or maybe it’s because I can’t really tell if the colour is there or not.

Ingredients: Not printed on the sample case.  But you can get the ingredient list from their website here.

Made in: no indication on sample pack.

Vapour Beauty Multi-Use in Courtesan:

Texture: Super smooth and silky.

Colour:  At first looking at it from the Vapour website and also on Naturisimo, you might think that this would be too bright or too red to look natural.  But to my surprise, the colour is very beautiful and natural looking.  Unlike the starlet, the Courtesan does not need that much building up.  But you do need more swipes than BWC.  I think the colour of Courtesan is prettier than any of the colours tested here, including over that of Bobby Brown!

Smell: Has a strong lipstick smell.

Wearability:  Lasts but not as long as BWC or Bobby Brown.   A swipe of baby wipe and it’s gone!

Ingredients: Not printed on the sample case.  But you can get the ingredient list from their website here.

Made in: no indication on sample pack.

Terre D’Oc Lip Liner

Texture: Not as creamy as Bobby Brown.  Does tug at the lips somewhat.

Colour:  I love the colour over Bobby Brown’s.  It’s a really natural looking colour and doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing lip liner although it does its job of providing definition.

Smell: Unlike the lippy smell from the Bobby Brown lip liner, this one has a nice woody smell.

Wearability:  Lasts and lasts and lasts!  Lasts as long as the Bobby Brown one.

Ingredients: Caprylic Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Glycerides, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed oil, Cera Carnauba (Copernicia Cerifera Wax), Hydrogernated Castor Oil, Candellila Cera (Euphorbia Cerifera Wax), Cera Alba (Beeswax), Hydrogernated Palm Glycerides, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, may contain CL 77019 (mica), Cl 77691 (Titanium Dioxide), CL 77491 (Iron Oxides), Cl77492 (Iron Oxides), Cl77499 (Iron Oxides).

Made in: Germany (as on the box)

I hope this review helps you in your decision whether to go with more natural lipsticks.  What was your experience with natural lipsticks?  What other brands have you tried?  Which brands do you think are natural and yet function as well as the top lipstick brands? 🙂
